Hi, I’m Amy Buffenbarger, a true bred Washingtonian (well, technically I grew up in the Maryland suburbs, but spent plenty of time in the District.) I’ve thought of living in another city, and even tried for my first semester of college, but I quickly realized that my friends, family and my heart reside in the DC area. Perhaps it’s the power of the decision making that happens in DC office buildings. Or the wonderment and awe that comes from walking between the Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial. The cherry blossoms in spring time, humidity in summer, festivals in fall, and ice (never really snow) in the winter. Maybe it’s the Capital Crescent Trail, National Arboretum, Rock Creek Park or the great National Zoo. Late night falafel and empanadas or the burrito cart on K Street could all play a small role in my adoration for DC. Mostly it’s feeling like I really know how this city works, the ins and outs of being “inside the beltway” and feeling a strong passion for the politics.
Whatever it is that keeps me in the District, I want to discover more. To start, I’m fascinated by the all the random statues I come across while strolling around. Really, who are those people and what did they do to deserve the honor? I want to get a better sense of the diversity in this town. Find out what other people do here and learn what they make of DC. I want to use this site to educate and share.

I’m also a student in American University’s Interactive Journalism grad program. This site is being constructed in accordance with my classes and projects. So bear with me.
